I began this Wix version of my website in mid October 2021, after a long, stressful 2-3 weeks in discussions with a local church regarding their website that I had developed, maintained and updated with new designs for them for 20 years. On Oct 1st the pastor called me, asking that I take down their website as they no longer wanted to use their domain name. What???
Apparently the church decided to hire someone (I had worked for free), to develop a new website using Wix and they bought a new domain name (instead of just transferring their existing domain which I had paid for, for 20 years).
Their new site is not 100% functional, with broken links, no content and the mobile version doesn't work. Should I suggest to the pastor I could fix it for them? I get the impression he doesn't want to deal with me, quite honestly, because I told him that I was not a Christian. Maybe I'll approach him in the future once I finish(?) this website.
So I had to find out about Wix and I gave it a try. When the internet was young everyone 'hand-coded' their html for their sites and that's when I started. Advances in internet technology over the years enhanced the visual presentation and functionality of websites to a point where hand-coding is no-more. Html wasn't a programming language, it was a mark-up language telling the browser how to present the page. And it still is, but now sites are built using complex JavaScripts that allow for a totally different visitor experience to a website. Today you need to be a programmer.
The week before I started this site, I gave my other site a complete makeover using html and CSS (cascading style sheets). The site, I will admit, is bland but I liked how it all came together. It is still incomplete because I started this Wix version and realized how quickly the site evolved with additional functionality I would not be able to do on the first site. I continue to experiment so things can change here ... often.
