The Zodiac 2.0

What is the Zodiac?

In 1928, the International Astronomers Union defined the borders around our 88 constellations, which take up 100% of the sky (so there will be no new constellations). In the video you will see each constellation of the Zodiac shown surrounded by a blue border. Only the Zodiac is shown with its borders.

The video shows the sun's movement as it travels through each constellation crossing a border leaving one and entering the next. In addition you can also see the moon and some planets as they also travel through the Zodiac and if you look closer you can see numerous comets moving around.

​

The Zodiac is a ring of constellations we see the sun pass through on it's annual cycle. The path the sun follows is called the ecliptic Although I'm sure you understand it's the Earth that is moving and not the sun. These constellations were recognized by ancient astronomers who, after time, assembled them into the Zodiac. Man recognized the constellations as guides to coming seasons. They assigned each "sign" 30 degrees (12 signs * 30=360 degrees or one full year), not unlike a clock face. On this clock, picture the second hand moving counterclockwise. That's the sun moving through the Zodiac.

The software I use allows me to time travel. I can set it to display the Zodiac for any given date covering a 10,000 year period. I have determined not only the date the sun is on a border, but also what time of the day the sun begins to cross the border.

​

Knowing these dates, it's easy to determine how long it takes for the sun to pass through each constellation. Time frames go from 7 days to 45 days. On Astrology's terms each constellation is given 30 degrees on the clock which translates to  30 days (+-) so they have to slice the Zodiac into 'imaginary signs' that fit into this 30 day period making your sign, imaginary. For example: It takes the sun 45 days to pass through Virgo but Astrology gives it 30 days. What happens to the other 15 days? Well, they chop the head off Virgo and feed it to Leo and they chop Virgo's legs off at the knees and gives that part of the constellation to Libra.

But what makes a constellation a member of the Zodiac?

It's membership is determined by whether the sun passes through it during the year. Oddly enough, the sun actually exits the Zodiac for a period of 18 days. Where is it? No man's land? Lost in space? The sun is actually above the constellation Scorpio but not within it's borders. Where is the sun located? On Nov 22, the sun is entering Scorpio. On Nov 29 it not only leaves Scorpio, but it also leaves the Zodiac.

The sun is actually in Ophiuchus the "serpent-bearer", the thirteenth constellation of the Zodiac. The sun is entering Ophiuchus on Nov. 29 and leaves on Dec. 17 as it enters Sagittarius. During this time, Astrology says the sun is in Scorpio.

You may read articles stating that Astronomy has discovered a new constellation. Muckwash!! No, that's not it's name as the constellation Ophiuchus has always been known by Astronomy, it's Astrology that's opening their eyes to this fact now. The question is, what will they do with this information.

​

So why exclude it? Because, how do you divide 13 constellations into 12 months? The math is easier if we ignore Ophiuchus. This was a decision made by ancient astronomers when they cast the Zodiac in stone some 5000 years ago.

​

The astronomical solution would be to accept the actual dates allowing Astrology to know the location of not only the sun but the planets as well. Currently Astrology has no clue as to the location of any of them.

This is just one of the reasons why the dates and signs don't line up. What's precession all about? 

Think of a slow moving train going in a big circle around you.

This video shows the movement of the sun, moon  and planets as they travel through the Zodiac. Can you see the comets? Sorry, the + and -  only work in the program.

If you follow the moon, you will see it approaching the 'new moon' phase as it gets closer to the sun. The potential for future eclipses can be observed by  zooming in closer to see if it will occur.

​

Of course though, this is just an illusion as the sun does not really move through the Zodiac. The Earth revolves around the sun  but from our perspective we see the sun moving through the Zodiac.

The gray outline shows the sun in the constellation Ophiuchus which lies above Scorpio.  The sun enters on Nov 29  and exits on Dec 17. Is Ophiuchus your sign?
